Makeup
|
This one I find to be the most effective vampire makeup tutorial as it creates the definite look we are trying to achieve. The dark eyeshadow really highlights her eyes and automatically draws you in and almost makes you feel uncomfortable to look at due to the intensity of it all.
The smokey eyeshadows look really effective as it suggests temptation and really contributes to the darkness of her character. The idea that it is black and not any other colour such as white, portrays her character as Vampires are seen as dark, mysterious characters. This finished make over looks really seduction and creates a sensual atmosphere. The makeup tutorial as a whole seems quite easy to do and can probably be created very professional and simple. The use of the dark colours in this makeup tutorial really indicates the darkness within the characters of the vampire sub genre. The use of red and black are the main colours when relating to horrors as they are associated with the conventions of the typical stereotype of vampires. The fact they have pale, white skin represents the not living state of the character as due to hemoglobin, in which vampires have less off, does make the skin fragile and pale. This is what we need to achieve in the art of creating a vampire.

When exploring both videos in great context they are both highly similar with hardly any differences. In both tutorials they both have red lips, this is to show the seducing and promiscuous side towards the vampires in this specific sub genre. Due to this we are going to follow this stereotype as it would seem silly not too. Not only is it a strong, vivid colour but it also metaphorically states our character as a sexual object rather than a person, which is what we would like to achieve in our teaser trailer.
Not only is the lips similar, but also the eyes are quite similar as well, as they both use dark, bold colours in order to show off their vampire coloured eyes and to have a metaphoric statement. We are going to follow the idea of having dark, penetrative colours on our eyelids but not as powerful as the ones above as we don't really want our demographic to be more focused on what eyeshadow we have on our eyes but want them to be more drawn in too the action and other aspects such as our fangs and our seducing attitude.
With our makeup experiments we decided to do it on our own. This is because we wanted to develop our artistic skills and creativity. It also enhanced our skills in the makeup skills and to make us realise what needed improving and what looked decent. We also decided that doing our own makeup would reflect on our independence as a student as well as a makeup artist. It helps create a dynamic as well as a diverse complexity of the skills of having the right duration for each makeup as well for the typical horror conventions of vampire.

Why do Vampires HAVE to have pale skin?
Even though this is classed as research we still needed to explore the conventions of a vampire. To do this we looked on a website called 'Yahoo Answers' where random people ask specific question and people answer them.
This one member asked this specific question which completely benefited our group, even though it was posted two years ago, the whole initial ideas of vampires having pale skin wouldn't change.

Fangs |
By looking at fang tutorials allowed us to have a deeper input to how we have to put them in. Our first impressions when watching this certain tutorial was that it looked very easy and simplistic to do. This, however gave us false implications when actually placing our fangs in. By Nicole Russell |
By exploring Ebay and Amazon we were able to find out how much fangs were going to cost, they are basically £10.00 in Ebay and Amazon.

When putting the fangs in we originally thought it was going to be really easy, we applied the denture glue inside the fang and held them on our tooth. Not only did the drying take a sustained amount of time, the fang kept on falling out which got very frustrating and I personally got very slightly un patience. After a couple of attempts in getting the fangs in they finally stuck in and looked pretty decent. The only downfall with the fangs, is the whole initial idea of the denture glue, the denture glue tasted disgusting and actually became stuck to your tooth rather than the fang itself.
When watching the fang tutorial, the first impressions was that it seemed pretty simple and easily fitting, but after going through the placing of the fangs, like the contacts, it was not as easy as it first seems.

Eye Contacts
|
When looking at eye contact tutorials we first originally thought it was going to be easy due to the simplicity of how they present it but it turned out to be not what we expected whatsoever. We first had difficulty with opening the actual packet of the eye contacts which we could all agree was foreshadowing that it was going to be a fail attempt. However, we ignored this and carried on with attempting to put the contacts in with great difficulty. Not only did the eye contacts hurt when putting them in, in which the tutorials didn't inform us on this, but they were also very annoying to the eyes due to the sensitivity levels of them.
With my own experience of trying to put the contacts in, I completely failed and actually didn't have the audacity to get them on my actual eye itself. The whole tension building of the eye contacts was very full filling and immediately made me give up with putting them in myself. Therefore, I got another student to help me put them in, this once again failed as I couldn't keep still and also I found myself constantly flinching every time she tried to put them in. Even though, the whole situation was very eventful we are most definitely going to have a second attempt of this. |

We purchased eye contact lenses for £15.99 each. We wanted to follow the convention of the 'norm' for the makeup purely because the costume is going to be intentionally different to the normal convention of 'vampires' as they are going to be very provocative and 'biker' like. We had to receive advise both of students and teachers who wore eye contacts, and also looked at youtube videos for guidance on how to put them in and remove them with care.

NAILS
We spent £20 in order to get our nails done professionally for our horror. As you can see we have both different colours to reflect on our unique ability to kill. Red is a powerful convention used throughout all horror conventions and black is used to highlight a theme of darkness and sinister minds.

Costume
Costume is an effective aspect when filming a trailer as without the correct costume can ruin the whole atmosphere and leave the audience not even effected.
This was my first costume when my character was a lurer for the vampire but due to my character being too confusing I am becoming a conventional final girl.

Scars and Essentials
When looking at these stick on scars and gashes, in my opinion, I find they look unprofessional and artificial. For example, the bottom right has a blood splatters next to the gash. This is seen as artificial as the blood looks unrealistic and too much like a stick on tattoo. They may however look believable from a distance especially the bottom left which look like scratch marks from a Vampire perhaps or a Werewolf. The ones we may be using is the bottom left and the vampire bites in which you can't really see in this picture.

I tried to make sure that the colours I used in my costume had relevance to plot.
The repeated use of red and a black help to emphasise the elements of the plot.
The elements are SEDUCTION, BLOOD and DARKNESS.

The special fx wax is quite difficult to work with at first as when it is first removed from the pot it is solid and hard to apply and keeps sticking to your fingers. When the wax heats up a bit it is easier to work with but it still sticks to your fingers.

In this video tutorial I am practicing with special effects.
As our plot involves vampires we needed to create a bite mark so we could use it in the trailer. I also learned a new skill in this video in the form of annotations to say what I am doing in the tutorial. The items used include: Make-up Snazaroo special fx wax Fake blood By kirsty. |
