Inspirations for our Horror trailer
'Hostel' (2005)
|
By exploring the Hostel trailer gave us a real feel for the theme of torture as it constantly runs through persistently, which is seen as a real effective aspect. It also gave us the idea of having the male actor being tied up as it completely breaks the conventions of a stereotypical horror as normally in Horrors you only see the female being the victim.
It also gave us the idea of having our male victim topless as it is seen in the trailer. The use of this suggests abnormal and insanity running through the killers mind. It would also make the victim out of its comfort zone which would make it seem more realistic as well as sinister. We also used this to create a sense of subtle sexual activity to capture the audience making them engaged and making the audience purposely feel reluctant to not be in there position. This will effectively increase the level on anxiety within the audience and therefore making the trailer seem more scary and sinister. We are incorporating this slasher theme with our Vampire sub genre, to create a much larger mass of our demographic. The titles running throughout the trailer are very effective and we are hoping to get inspired by these. The black background indicates the sinister feel throughout the trailer and the yellow font highlights the venomous personalities the killers are perceived with, which is what we want to be going for. 'Saw 5' (2009)
|
The trailer to Saw 5 is also filled with torture as well, but this trailer goes around it in a different path. The trailer consists of one singular scene of where this male victim is getting tortured by a machine. We don't necessarily need the whole idea of the machine based torture but we just want to get the inspiration of the initial idea of it. The idea of having the close up shots of the male victim in pain is really effective and we want to incorporate that in our final trailer. The whole idea of torture being the way of escaping is a significant part in this trailer and the films, we don't really want to have this in our horror, not that the fact that we don't like it, its simply the idea we don't have the budget to create it. The titles for Saw are similar to the one in Hostel, which is seen as a constant repetitive theme running through slasher and gory films. We are most likely to pay homage to the Hostel titles as the Saw titles remind us more of a fantasy adventure film, such as Harry Potter. By Nicole Russell |
Further Inspirtation
'Dexter' - Season Four
During Dexter there is an effective scene where a male killer kills a female in the bath. This scene however does include explicit features and due to that we are not completely copying the whole concept. The idea we are going to hopefully incorporate is the idea of the bath and the bloody water. Instead of having a death scene we are going to have a scene where two females are sat in the bath - this is simply to capture our demographic. The two female roles that are included in the bath are not going to be naked but it is going to be suggested that they are towards the audience. Due to the sub genre of our Horror, we need to have the water red to suggest the females are bathing in a bath tub full of blood, this will be effective as it will add too the subtle sensual atmosphere we are advising to create. The fact we are going to have a white bath tub highlights a sense of irony towards our characters in our Horror. The use of the colour white traditionally is normally associated with purity and innocence, this is an exact stereotype in which we are going for as not only does it vividly highlight the colour of the blood but also fits in with our personality, full of secrets and hidden lies.
The shot where the killer holds the hand mirror in front of the victims face is seen as an effective shot, this is because it allows the victim to see her self being killed in which is never really seen in a murder scene. This would be an effective prop to use whilst having our females in the bath, as the mirror can connote vanity and perfection, which is also linked in with our killers personalities, they want to look good for their male victims.

Vampire Orientated Inspirations
'Kiss Of The Damned' (2013)
This trailer easily inflicts strong sexual scenes, as it insists to use an attractive protagonist who gets bitten because he is overwhelmed by the sexual features of the vampire. The two characters have sexual innuendo's which lead to the man being bit, this shows that temptation led him onto the woman which resulted in him becoming a vampire. The close up shots of the womens fangs with blood around her mouth is the type of shot we would like to take homage from. However I take strong dislike to the titles, they are not separated from the clip and simply fade on the screen and away, I think this avoids the technique of climax building and struggles to highlight the obvious indications to horror. The color of the titles also avoid the genre of horror, this is because they'd rather enhance the theme of love rather than vampire. We are completely reluctant to enhance any other theme and genre other than vampire and horror. However moving away from the initial stroyline shown, we'd like to take a small homage from this trailer of the female vampire because we find it extremely effective and creates that tempting feel to the clip which we'd like our males to show in our trailer. The setting also only broadens the idea of sex and love, therefore we are going to choose our setting wisely in order to highlight our genre.

'Let Me In' (2010). |
We used 'Let Me In' as inspiration for our trailer. Although 'Let Me In' is about two young teenagers who meet and become the unlikeliest of friends, Abbie has someone who can go out in the day to retrieve blood for her to drink/eat.
As we wanted everyone in our group to be acting as well as doing computer work, taking the idea of having someone retrieve the blood was a good way to get every one involved. We put our own spin on they idea as it didn't quite fit with our idea instead of getting the blood from the person we have my character luring the victims in and then trapping them with the vampires. Doing this aloud us to follow our plot line and not have a scene that didn't fit. |
