QUESTION 4:
What did you learn from your audience feedback?
AUDIENCE REACTIONS
Audience feedback is highly significant in the media, as the audience are able to bring in the revenue and inevitably provide constructive criticism, enabling work to improve for the spectators. The aim of the editor, director and producer is to typically and effectively please their audience. The audience is the reason for making the film, in some cases, however in short films it sometimes is not about the money and number of people that would go and watch it but its about expressing themselves or may be just as a hobby rather than a business.
How we go about getting audience feedback:
Questionnaires- My preferred use of getting audience feedback was through questionnaires as it does not put much pressure on the audience therefore results are more likely to be accurate and true, questionnaires can be designed by using closed questions with yes or no answers or open where the audience can comment on what their opinion is. As my film is not a Hollywood Blockbuster my scale of people i asked would be alot smaller than a big film would go and get feedback from, i gave my questionnaires about the style of my film poster to 10 people.

Positive Feedback'The crane shot is so effective!'
'It made me cringe with all of the blood, very good! Love horror' 'Haven't seen anything to do with vampires in the horror genre for a long time! Finally something gory! 'Brilliant! The soundtrack creates the right tension along with the action!' 'The fast shots are synchronised with the soundtrack well!' 'The lighting just makes it!' 'You're so brave getting into that tub almost naked!, you obviously have a 'passion' for media' 'The fangs are so realistic!' 'It just portrays vampires in a completely different way!, theres no stream of comedy whatsoever which is hard to avoid when using something like seductive vampires' 'This better be an 18!, so yuk' This positive feedback made us feel content with our trailer and enabled us to carry through with our intentions positively and effectively. |
Negative Feedback'If you had contact lenses in, it would have improved your work, as I have already seen the poster of the red eye, it doesn't really associate with the trailer!'
I do agree, however we had a great deal of trouble trying to get the contacts in, despite our best efforts, we decided it will be better without and the fast pace shots will disguise this effectively. Also, the poster shows the eye oozing out with blood and therefore merges with the trailer effectively. 'It's very short for a teaser trailer!' The trailers length of time leaves behind a greater mystery for the audience to absorb the tension, forcing them to ask questions and a 'need' to watch the full movie. Also, it was approved by others in the school as a teaser trailer does not need to be any longer than a minute or less. 'The candle is so cliche' We as a group agree with this criticism and it made us go into thought of how we could change this. Although this con was not strong enough to change our perspective as we have avoided a variety of conventions in the media, thus made us think on behalf of using cliche's and the positive use of them. |
By adapting our audience feedback, had a great impact on our impressions
