QUESTION 3:
How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?
Editing Software
We are using Final Cut Pro software so edit our film trailer. Our group is at an advantage because we all know how to use it as we have all used it before when editing in Media.
Earlier on we had decided who will be editing and assigned roles. This kept our group organised and ensured that we all had an important job and role to fulfil. Even though we had assigned roles we helped each other when we needed help and also put out in put whenever we thought that something could be added or changed.

Step One: Go to File and then 'New Project'
|
Step Two: Then go to 'New Event'
|
Step Three: A link should pop up asking you to save and name the new project, it should come to a blank page with 'Import Media', click it after you have plugged in the camera and put it into 'USB' mode

Picmonkey
The site Picmonkey has proven to be just as effective and easier to use than photoshop. This site is specially designed for photo editing with effects for every occasion. Being able to change the brush size and the intensity of the effect chosen. You can change yourself into a picture perfect person or a ghoul or creature of the night. On the pictures above I darkened the area around the eyes to make them seem more sinister and hollow, I also changed the colour of Chloe's eyes and added blood to make it look like she has just fed. You can also use tools from other holidays, like on the picture above I used the bone skin tool from Day Of The Dead.
|
As well as those effects there is even a monster morph tool which allows you to drag part of the image and make it seem less human, which is what I have done with Chloe's mouth

VIDEO EDITING ON FINAL CUT PRO
|
In this video I am editing a vampire bite mark tutorial I did for our costume and make up.
I am using a blade tool to make the long video into shorter videos so that I can edit them separately. I speed up the video and add a soundtrack to the video. Tutorial to the right. |
This is a playlist created on youtube of all our Blood Bath related videos.
This website specialises in using the strategy of comedy in order to present our coursework. We used this website multiple times both last year and this year, however the website has changed but I found it much less complex to use, as one advantage it has adapted is not having a small limit of text to convert into speech. This was significantly helpful as we could present an endless cartoon that has a story and goes into sharp detail on behalf of our website. It is also very simple to add to our website;
I personally wanted to explore various website in order to present our coursework ideas, Spicynodes is something other than Prezi. I found this website complex to use at first but after exploring around I developed an understanding for it. I found it slightly more effective than Prezi as it is a unique and easy website which is widely used to present ideas. I decided to add it to 'Tagline and Connotion choices', which is in our planning as it had to consist of many sub headings with explanations, I found this website perfect for our page. Once it is finished, you simply hover your mouse over the chosen bubble and click to have a closer view of it.

We used dafont.com to explore with fonts in order to justify what was most effective for our trailer. We made a video simply analysing our favourites, however when time passed we found 'Final Cut' to have many font choices suitable for our horror. Although, Dafont.com still did have a significant impact on our intentions for our titles as it gave us rough ideas of what we needed. This website was not complex what so ever, there was many of them to chose from but this website was highly recommended by our teacher, therefore it was acknowledged to scroll through this page and evaluate each text which made us have a further insight on what we leaned more towards and what font we wanted to avoid.
|
Youtube was surprisingly helpful, it saved time with the loading of 'Final Cut' and helped add simple effects such as colour, annotations and special effects to our planning and research ideas. If the video didn't meet our exceptions Youtube enabled us to Trim the video, allowing us to take out any clips we were reluctant to include. Due to Youtube being a world wide phenomenon became inevitable for students our age to have a great deal of experience with this website, which we did have. This made it clear to us to use youtube as an backup editing software. Kirsty wished to use annotations to present her video of vampire fang bites, she did not have to change to size of the text and the audience are also able to cross the annotations if they wish to not read and just watch, this is not an option on 'Final Cut Pro'.
|
On 'Youtube' you can play around with a technique called Annotations, with the video below I have screen casted the preview of 'How to add annotations'. Which can be really helpful when anaylsing a certain trailer without doing it on 'Final Cut Pro'. In my opinion, I believe that Youtube annotations is much easier than doing it on any other software.
Prezi is a innovative domain which allows you to create effective mind maps in an artistic policy. This website is no where difficult to use, its actually really straightforward and manageable. The use of Prezi has been used throughout our Planning and Research which creates a dynamic and charismatic feel to the website.
We used Prezi to collaborate our magazine analysis to make it seem creative rather than a monotonous mind map. It admits us to show our imaginative side when experimenting with certain different technology. Prezi also gives you the opportunity to involve different multimedia in which normal mind map domains won't normally let you put anything else other than text. Finally to conclude, Prezi is a very alluring and compelling site which embraces the multimedia technology and has the chance of involving other skills into a mind map creation.
How do you do Photoshop, you ask? I shall tell you...
Photoshop is an amazing piece of software to get your hands on. This editing software can make you go from being overly spotty to have no imperfections whatsoever or from being a size 10 magically down to a size 6. You can use photoshop effectively to change eye colours for example in which you can see in the screencast below.
Below is a slideshow with a step by step explanation of how you can edit your face to having a blast of fire breathing out of your nose.
We used Jigsaw Planet to create a fun and energetic website in a educational purpose. The use of this embedded jigsaw is very amusing and entertaining for the use of our demographic. We used it to portray our initial practice shots which also allowed us to perceive the important camera angles.
We used the website 'ProProfs - Brain Games' to create a energetic and fun way to learn and on the page 'Costume and Makeup' I have used this hangman, which can be seen on the image on the left, to sustain an evaluation type of activity.
It also creates a challenges activity for our spectators, so whilst they are having an amusing time they are also thinking about the conventional makeup and costume used for a vampire. |
