Quick summery
When the trailer first begins it only appears to only be sci fi. Around half way through the trailer it becomes evident that there is a supernatural element to it which then interests the audience as they want to find out about the secret of the lost ship.
Event Horizon creates atmosphere and tension using the five key media aspects: Mise-en-scene,camera shots, editing, lighting and soundtrack.
Editing- the atmosphere is aided by editing as it shows quick fast pace shot that don't reveal to much to make the audience want to know more.
Camera shots-The camera shots is a vital part to this trailer as it makes it appear more intreging as it uses a variety of camera angles. It also has a lot of tracking shots that follow the characters to make it seem busy and hectic.
Soundtrack-The trailer begins with a simple, slow tempo soundtrack that continues to about a minute into the trailer to help create an atmosphere, the trailer also has voice overlays that create a sound bridge throughout the shots to fill the trailer.
Lighting- The trailer begins in high key lighting as it is not yet revealed to be a horror movie. As the trailer progresses we see a lot more low key shots, this is to create tension and atmosphere as people feel more venerable in absence of light.
Mise-en-scene-This helps to create the right atmosphere for the trailer as everything is in place with nothing out of the ordinary. They even include personal items of the crew members floating around due to anti-gravity to give it that extra bit of a sci fi feel.

Theories and convention.
Event Horizon trailer follows a lot of conventions in horror.
Convention one- Isolation. As you can see in this picture the man is alone and isolated, this gives a perfect opportunity for something bad to happen as you are already on edge.
Convention two-Absence of light. In this still from the trailer, the lights in the tunnels begins to fail this also gives a perfect opportunity for something bad to happen as you already feel venerable.
Convention three-Absence of parents. Although this trailer only shows adults, it does slightly follow this convention as there is an absence of help which parents usually are in horror movies.

trailer, it is evident to see that the audience are left wondering who the killer is. They are in costume so it could be anyone, it may be on of the friends or may be someone else. The characters are portraying high school teenagers and therefore where costumes which convey their angry range. Casual clothing is worn throughout the trailer except for the person in the mask costume is who wears this every time they are killing someone to obviously hide their identity The typical use of weapon choice in this film trailer is the knife and this becomes known as what the killer uses on every killing encounter.
